Overcoming, Inspiring, Transforming
When talking about Africa, the main issue is, generally, poverty; or corruption, spread conflicts, malnutrition, hungry, and death. Some people often use the word "Africa" as a synonymy of a miserable place/situation. It makes me feel sad. In fact our knowledge on African continent is scarce. The actual condition of the continent - here you may say the Black Africa or sub-Saharan - could not be explained without considering the events in the past. And there are no magic tricks for fixing the current problems. Inventions from outside, even with good intentions, could be tragic when the cultural diversity has not being considered. But this is something everybody knows. So, the solution, the answer, the path should came from inside. The aids, of course, are very important. But the reaction must start IN Africa.
And I am really happy when, while reading an on-line version of an UK newspaper, The Independent, I see in the main page an article about an African man who overcame. With its on efforts and the important help from NGOs and a British University he receives his Masters degree this week, after a life of poverty and drug. His name is Sammy Gitau, a Kenyan, from a slum in Nairobi to Manchester University and back, to keeping on making a difference. Congratulations Mr. Sammy Gitau. Please, inspire. Please, transform.
